Collaborative School Improvement Planning Initiative
Goal of This Activity:
To provide each class member the opportunity to gain experience working through a collaborative process in creating a school improvement plan to turn around a dysfunctional and failing school.
On-line Posting of School Improvement Plan: (Points Possible 20)
No later than the completion of the Module 7 each professional learning community is asked to post the following information on your community’s school improvement plan on the discussion board.. The posting is to be limited to five paragraphs.
The name of the school, and a brief description of the main dysfunctions and failures being experienced.
List of the three most crucial needs to be addressed.
The new mission statement to re-start the school direction.
Three goal statements to effectively address the three high need areas.
Statements as to how participation in this assignment has contributed to the principal and teacher team members perceptions, skill and has enhanced their capacity as savvy school leaders.
Submitting the School Improvement Plan: The principal providing leadership in creating your professional learning community is to:
Send the School improvement plan by e-mail to the instructor, by the completion of Module 8
The paper is between 10-12 double spaced pages, not including cover, and references
A chart should be used to show: Goal Statements, Objectives, Action Oriented Activities, Responsibility for Activities, and Time line.
Grading Guide for the School Improvement Plan
Introduction (Possible Points 15)
A presentation of the current conditions of the school
Description of the school structure and demographics
A presentation of the important data describing the needs to be addressed by this school improvement plan
Development of Action Plans (Possible Points 30)
A concise and clearly articulated mission statement
Identification and explanation of the key words included in the mission statement
List of Belief and Value statements
A list of the trends in the data that identify the specific needs to be addressed.
Presenting a list of potential solutions, and why the team believes each solution will improve or enhance the data.
The list of three goals statements on which to base the school improvement action plans.
A list of specific objectives designed to accomplish the respective goal statement
The action oriented activities designed to accomplish each of the objectives
An assignment of responsibility and authority for each activity
Conclusion (Possible Points 15)
Explanation on how the process for developing the school improvement plan will have a high degree of visibility and be seen as an open process.
Statements as to how participation in this assignment has contributed to the principal and teacher team members perceptions, skill and has enhanced their capacity as savvy school leaders.
Organization of the Paper (Possible Points 10)
The presentation of information is concise, clear and well organized
Sections in the paper are easily identified.
The paper is between 10-12 double spaced pages, not including cover, and references
